Argos

Yay~ it's Argos.

I seriously know little to nothing about him; we only mentioned him in class like once. XD;

I DO NOT CLAIM TO BE AN EXPERT OTL I'VE JUST BEEN RECENTLY RENEWING MY CHILDHOOD INTEREST IN THE ANCIENT WORLD. And making stupid comics for my Classics 110 class.

Appearance

Hair: Brown. ...Whatever that sort of beard thing is called.
Eyes: Dark Brown. Worried.
Face: Rounded rectangle.
Nose: Long, Round
Height: A bit taller than Athens and Corinth, but shorter than Sparta and Thebes
Clothing: I seriously have no idea. I drew him with hoplite armour.
Other: I have not really thought about his design that much... hahahaha.

Personality

Argos is the second oldest of the city-states after Sicyon; his peak was back in the 7th century and he hasn't really done much since then. He has a legendary reputation for being a strong and powerful guy, but recently he's become a bit out of shape (thankfully his muscle cuirass hides it quite well. XD)

Like Thebes, he is the site of many famous Greek myths and legends. His patron goddess is Hera, after she won the city from Poseidon. Since then, Argos has been cursed by a lack of water.

Argos retained his culture after the Dorians came, and he's developed a distinctive art style. He enjoys making pottery and can even match that of Athens.

He had frequent disputes with Sparta over land in the past, but after Sparta became the dominant power in the Peleponnese their rivalry has cooled down.

Argos isn't liked much by the rest of Greece because he is often neutral (or the unwilling and unhelpful ally of Athens)
Once during the Peloponnesian Wars, he and Corinth got married for a little while. The relationship became a bit oppressive and they parted ways after the war, when Sparta decreed that no city-state should be more powerful than the others and became Greece's keeper of the peace.

Athens: "...*sigh*"

Sparta: "I wish you'd stop trying to take over my yard..."

Corinth: "Heeeeeyyy, maybe we could make an alliance...? Or something more intimate?"

Greece: "...Can't you handle things yourself?"

Argos today is a good spot for tourism; he does a lot of gardening and takes good care of his citrus and olive trees.
