Description

One more late night doodle. :3 I should really get to sleep earlier.
Again, I used a colourscheme from colourlovers. It's really addicting. >w<

I have a list of all my personifications on my tumblr, so I picked three numbers from 1-24 and I got 1 1 and 9. Since Athens is #1 I laughed because he's obviously so full of himself the number generator couldn't handle it. I could have drawn fem!Athens but I decided to just draw Athens and Mama Greece. I chose my colour scheme, picked the first pose from PoseManiacs I saw and decided to draw them playing knucklebones. >w<
Knucklebones is actually kind of a 'woman's game' or a 'child's game' so Athens probably wouldn't be caught dead playing it most of the time, but he has a less narcissistic egotistical side sometimes.

I always wonder about the relationship between these two. Athens is definitely much older than Mama Greece herself, and throughout much of her early history Greece was probably pretty sickly and weak because even though her city-states spoke the same language and would band together against a common enemy, they didn't have a very strong sense of nationalism and often fought one another (hence her mild schizophrenia, hahaha).
In the beginning, when Athens first started to notice her, he probably didn't give a damn about her feelings and was much too self absorbed to actually care about her as a person rather than an instrument he could use to make himself obscenely rich and powerful, but I bet they started to get a bit fond of one another over time. For example, at the Battle of Salamis, the city-states teamed up (reluctantly) with Athens to defeat Persia. It was essentially a no-win scenario, but Athens (and his bro Themistocles) surprisingly managed to pull the alliance together and came out victorious. Of course that was the start of his massive ego, but for a few minutes he probably felt something along the lines of national pride. Later on when Macedon and Rome showed up, Greece started to gain her own identity. Even though Athens was still trying to make a comeback and wanted to unite Greece under himself, he probably had developed a genuine pride and affection for her. Not in a creepy sexy romantic way (although that's probably what he pretends it is, haha), just kind of a fondness... I don't know. Of course I imagine that modern-day Athens is always complaining about her useless-good-for-nothing-son 'If only it were like the old days when guys did heroic things to prove themselves and didn't have to wear girly pants! And there weren't freaking cats everywhere!' and how "It was so much better in your mother's day!"
He must really miss her...

I shouldn't be allowed to type when I'm so deprived of food and sleep, arggh. >w<
