From Left to Right: Laconia (FemSparta), Thebes, Corinth, Sparta, Ancient Greece, Athens, Argos, Ionia, Attica (FemAthens)

Not totally happy with this, but it's one of the more ambitious things I've been working on. Typically I like to do things in no more than three sittings, but this took quite a few. I have a huge issue with groups and different heights. XD;;

I used stock art as reference for all of the poses... but stupidly forgot to save the links. If you spot something that requires credit, please let me know right away. ;w; I don't think stock art requires credit unless it's in photomanipulations, but please tell me if it does. XD;; I am a stock art n00b and should pay more attention...

So, uh, many of you who are familiar with my work (or just history) probably understand why it's difficult for me to see the personification of Ancient Greece as one stable person. I prefer to think of her as an entity who is constantly caught up in other people's whims and who is trying to forge an identity for herself.

There was not really a sense of Greek "nationalism" in the way we conceive of it today, but there was even less nationalism in Greece than in its contemporaries such as Persia or Egypt or Rome. It was more similar to Sumeria in that there was no real "empire" but a loose collection of different city-states with different ideologies.
And when I say different, I mean different.

At the same time however, Greeks were united by similar religious practices and beliefs, a relatively similar ethnicity, and most importantly of all a common language. I get the impression that Greeks used their language as the most potent form of their nationalism, hence the word "barbarian" referring to the sounds made by non-Greek speakers.

So anyway, here are the most important Greek characters in Athens and Sparta Adventures. :P
You can read their character profiles here if you so desire.

...Argos hasn't become an important character yet I'm afraid. I'm still waiting for him to turn up somewhere. XD; Of course, most of his big battles were before the Persian Wars so he's more or less in the stages of retirement right now aside from occasionally being dragged around by Athens.

I didn't realize it until halfway through colouring this that all of the warm colours seem to be Sparta's allies and all the cool colours seem to be Athens' allies... hmmm.
(Even so, Thebes is only Sparta's ally when it's convenient for him though, he's really up in his own little world in Boeotia and pretty much hates everyone secretly. xD; )

YEAH SO UH READ MY COMICS AND HOPEFULLY LEARN SOMETHING. OR EVEN TEACH ME SOMETHING. BOTH ARE GOOD. C: I'm going back to sleep now aghles

Maybe some more Mesopotamians or Egyptians next?

So... Are Sparta and Laconia twins as well as Attica and Athens?
