There is little to no information on the ancient Persian education system from the Persians themselves, but the Greeks (huge fans of the Persians </sarcasm>) had a lot of ideas about it. It seems that in addition to the usual reading, writing, arithmetic and religion, noble Persians were instructed in art, music, medicine, hunting, and how to use weapons such as spears and bows. Literacy was actually quite wide-spread in the Persian empire; scribes were everywhere and even fishermen and shepherds might have their sons tutored. Girls too were educated and a few even became fairly important figures in Persian society, but there were not very many.
